Soneri Mahal

The Soneri Mahal in Paharsingpura was erected by a Bundelkhand Chief who accompanied Aurangzeb into the Deccan. The building is in stone and lime and has a high plinth. It is said to have derived its name from the paintings of gold that at one time decorated it.


In Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Soneri Mahal is a distinctive museum. It was constructed between the years 1651 and 1653. The Mahal was constructed in traditional Rajput architecture. The Mahal is 2 kilometers from Bibi Ka Maqbara and 6 kilometers from the Aurangabad train station. Some significant sculptures and reliefs discovered during nearby excavations are on exhibit at the Mahal. The Mahal is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and entry is Rs.10.
